# PSR J0952-0607

PSR J0952-0607 is a millisecond pulsar in the constellation [Sextans](https://spacecatalog.org/constellation/sextans), 5675 ly from Earth. It was discovered in 2017.

Among the heaviest neutron [stars](https://spacecatalog.org/stars) measured, at roughly two and a third solar masses. It got there by stripping its companion: the star it is devouring is down to a few per cent of the Sun's mass, which is why objects like this are called black widows.

## At a glance

- **WHAT IT IS:** Millisecond pulsar
- **HOW FAR:** 5675 ly — The light arriving now left it that long ago.
- **WHERE TO LOOK:** [Sextans](https://spacecatalog.org/constellation/sextans) — The patch of sky it sits in, as seen from Earth.

## Properties

| Quantity | Value |

## Catalogue data

### WHAT KIND OF THING IT IS

What the object is in itself, rather than how it happens to look from here.

| Field | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Surface magnetic field | 8.31×10⁷ G |
| Spin period | 0.0014138 s |
| Spin-down rate | 4.77×10⁻²¹ s/s |
| Characteristic age | 4.69×10⁹ yr |
| Spin-down luminosity | 6.67×10³⁴ erg/s |

### WHERE IT IS AND HOW IT MOVES

Position, motion across the sky and the size it covers on it. These are measurements of the object as seen from here, so every one of them depends on where here is.

| Field | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Position known to | 2.1 mas |
| Dispersion measure | 22.41 pc/cm³ |

### THE ORBIT

The shape of the path, where the object sits on it, and the instant those figures were true of. An orbit is a fit to observations and drifts away from the real one either side of its epoch.

| Field | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Binary orbit model | ELL1 |

### OTHER NAMES AND NUMBERS

The identifiers other catalogues file this object under, for anyone joining this data to theirs.
