Centaurus A is a lenticular galaxy S0 in the constellation Centaurus, 12.00 from Earth, shining at apparent magnitude 7.22 (). It is catalogued as 2MASX J13252775-4301073, C 77 and ESO 270-009, among 12 designations in total. It was discovered in 1826.

The nearest galaxy with an active nucleus: an elliptical wearing a thick dust lane from a galaxy it swallowed, and a radio source spanning degrees of sky.

Centaurus A is not a point of light, so the limit above is the wrong one to hold it against: the same brightness spread over 25.9′ of sky is harder than a star of it, and goes first — spread out, it comes to 23.6 .
