Cat's Eye Nebula is a planetary nebula in the constellation Draco, 5294 from Earth, shining at apparent magnitude 9.01 (). It is catalogued as 2MASX J17583335+6637591, C 6 and HD 164963, among 9 designations in total. It was discovered in 1786.

The first planetary nebula whose spectrum was ever examined, in 1864 — the observation that proved nebulae could be glowing gas rather than unresolved stars.

Cat's Eye Nebula is not a point of light, so the limit above is the wrong one to hold it against: the same brightness spread over 54″ of sky is harder than a star of it, and goes first. Catalogued sizes are measured to a photographic contour, and the part an eye sees is usually smaller.
