NGC 247 is an intermediate spiral galaxy SABc in the constellation Cetus, shining at apparent magnitude 9.21 (). It is catalogued as 2MASX J00470855-2045374, C 62 and ESO 540-022, among 12 designations in total. It was discovered in 1784.

NGC 247 is not a point of light, so the limit above is the wrong one to hold it against: the same brightness spread over 19.7′ of sky is harder than a star of it, and goes first — spread out, it comes to 23.8 .
